The Stony Brook baseball team dropped a pair of games to Oklahoma State in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The two losses drops the Seawolves to 0-12 on the year and the Cowboys improve to 14-4.
In the opening game, the Seawolves were edged 3-2 by the Cowboys. Stony Brook opened the scoring, when Isidro Fortuna, following a Kyle Traylor double, ripped a two-run homerun over the leftfield fence in the top of the fourth.
The score remained 2-0, when Oklahoma State responded in the bottom of the sixth. After a lead-off walk and a bunt single, the Cowboys had runners on first and third with no outs. Tyler Mach came through for the home team, as he took a Matt Restivo pitch and hit it just over the 331 mark in left field to give OSU the 3-2 win.
Keith Fier ended the day 3-for-4 at the plate for Stony Brook. Traylor was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Fortuna went 2-for-4 on the afternoon with the two-run homer and Robert Leonard was 1-for-3 with a single. Restivo (0-1) went 7.0 innings, striking out seven and allowing three earned runs. Gary Novakowski threw one inning of shutout ball in the eighth.
For the Cowboys, Shelby Ford went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Tyler Mach went 2-for-4 with three runs driven in and Rebel Ridling went 1-for-3. Oliver Odle (3-2) picked up the win for OSU, throwing a complete game, striking out five and allowing two runs.
In the nightcap, Oklahoma State struck quickly and opened the game with a three-run inning. Stony Brook got one run back in the third, when Fier scored on a Fortuna RBI single. The Cowboys responded scoring seven unanswered runs. The Seawolves added their final run in the ninth, when Brian Witkowski singled in Stephen Didsbury.
Kris Bakey (0-3) took the loss for Stony Brook, allowing five runs in three innings of work. Jon Pasieka finished the night 2-for-3 to lead the Stony Brook offense.
Charles Benoit (3-1) earned the win for the Cowboys, only allowing one run in six innings of work. Corey Brown went 2-for-5 with a solo-shot and Deik Scram finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, with two runs scored and three RBI.
The Seawolves will return to action on Saturday, when they continue their series with Oklahoma State at 4:00 P.M.
