Stony Brook head volleyball coach Deb Matejka-DesLauriers announced the addition of five new volleyball players for the 2006 season. The Seawolves will add three freshman and two transfers for 2006.
Three newcomers signed National Letters of Intent earlier this year. Kaitlyn Deutsch, a 5-10, lefty setter from St. Louis, Missouri, is a transfer from Southern Mississippi. Deustch led the Golden Eagles in service aces (29), was second on the team in assists (192), totaled 202 digs, 26 blocks and registered 80 kills.
Megan Roehl, a 6-0 middle blocker from Fresno, California, transferred to Stony Brook from Fresno City Community College. As a sophomore at Fresno Community College, Roehl was named first team all-conference after leading her team to the state finals. Roehl also led her team in kills per game (3.07), attack percentage (.351) and blocks per game (2.51).
Lindsey Gordon, a 6-1 middle blocker from North Patchogue, New York, rounds up the NLA additions for the Seawolves. Gordon was named all-league and all county academic at Patchogue-Medford High School. Gordon played club volleyball for the Long Island Volley Academy for two years and was also on the varsity gymnastics team.
The Seawolves will also add Justine Hoffmann and Jamie Watson to the 2006 roster. Hoffmann, a 6-0 middle blocker from Wading River, New York, is a three-time all-league member for Shorham-Wading River and played two years at the Long Island Volleyball Academy.
Watson, a 5-5 Libero from New City, New York, is a four-time all-section team member and has been named to the "Super 70" selection three times. Watson has served as team captain as a junior and a senior and was named the Clarkstown North MVP as a sophomore, junior and senior.
The Seawolves will open the 2006 season when they compete in the Jasper Invitational on Friday, August 25 against Long Island University. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 P.M. start.
