Burlington, Vt. -
Vermont's unearned run in the first inning was all the Catamounts needed as the Stony Brook baseball team fell, 1-0, to Vermont on Saturday afternoon. Game 2 of the doubleheader was rained out so the two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 11:00 A.M. The loss drops the Seawolves to 16-24 and 6-6 in the America East.
In the bottom of the first inning, following a lead-off single and a Stony Brook throwing error, Vermont had runners on second and third with nobody out. Kyle Brault delivered what proved to be the game-winning single, as his RBI single plated the only run of the ballgame.
Vermont starter, Joe Serafin limited the Stony Brook bats to only two hits, with the Seawolves best scoring opportunity coming in the bottom of the seventh. With one-out, Isidro Fortuna was hit by a pitch and Tom Pennino followed with a single through the left side. Serafin would retire the next two Seawolves as Vermont held on for the victory.
Matt Restivo (1-6) allowed only one unearned run in the complete game loss. Restivo held the Vermont bats to only three hits and struck out four. Peter Milani and Pennino tallied the only two hits for Stony Brook.
The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow with a doubleheader at 11:00 A.M.
