Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Stony Brook Athletic Department is proud to announce the hiring of a pair of assistant baseball coaches. Anthony Stutz, who served as the interim pitching coach last year, has been hired as the full-time pitching coach and Joe Pennucci joins the squad as an assistant coach.
Stutz served as an interim coach last year after playing four years of professional baseball as a minor league player in the Anaheim Angles system, for the Brockton Rox and for the Evansville Otters. Stutz played two years with the Seawolves and graduated with his B.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies in 2003. Last year, under his guidance, the Stony Brook pitching staff led the America East in ERA (4.22), strikeouts (350) and had the best strikeout to walk ratio. He will continue to serve as the pitching coach and assist for recruiting for Stony Brook.
Pennucci joins Matt Senk and his baseball staff after serving as the associate head baseball coach and recruiting coordinator for the Dominican College baseball team for the past three years. Pennucci was an all-conference catcher for the Dana College baseball team in Blaire, Nebraska and graduated with a psychology degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 2002. Pennucci will work with the infielders, assist with hitting and serve as the first base coach.
