Box Score

Evansville, Ind. - Adam Ciklic's goal in the 4th minute held up Sunday afternoon as the Stony Brook University men's soccer team defeated the University of Evansville 1-0 in the final round of the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic. The victory ended a three-match losing streak for the 2-6-0 Seawolves. The loss ended a five-match winning streak for the 5-2-0 Purple Aces.

Stony Brook finished second in the tournament and placed three players on the All-Tournament team. Adam Ciklic was picked as the Offensive MVP of the tournament while teammates Michael Palacio and Mahamadou Simpara joined Ciklic on the All-Tournament team.

Stony Brook's early score came about when junior midfielder Tamer Mohamed fed a pass to Ciklic inside the box. The senior forward turned quickly and blasted a rising shot into the upper left corner past a diving Alec Dufty to give SBU the 1-0 lead at 3:40. Evansville threatened on a number of occasions, especially in the second half when the Aces outshot Stony Brook 8-4, but Evansville was able to put only two shots on goal against SBU goalkeeper E.J. Xikis.

The Seawolves return home to Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium when they host Adelphi on Tuesday, September 19. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
