Men's Basketball Announces Complete 2006-07 Schedule

Sept. 27, 2006

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University men's basketball team has announced its 2006-07 schedule. The season is highlighted by three non-conference games against Villanova, Notre Dame, and Penn State. The defending Big East co-champion and nationally ranked Villanova, a No. 1 seed in the 2006 NCAA tournament, will visit the Stony Brook campus on November 30 following the Seawolves trip to Happy Valley to take on Big 10 foe Penn State on November 17. Stony Brook will also travel to Notre Dame on December 30 to face the Fighting Irish.

"I am very excited with the strong schedule that we have," said head coach Steve Pikiell. "What I am most excited about is that we have 13 home games this season, including two top-25 caliber programs playing in our arena with Hofstra and Villanova. It is a very challenging schedule especially for a young team like ours, but it is an exciting schedule for our team and our fans. We are certainly looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead."

The Seawolves begin the 2006-07 season at Colgate on November 10. Three days later, Stony Brook will visit Cornell before heading to Penn State on November 17. The game versus the Nittany Lions will mark the first time that Stony Brook has faced a Big 10 opponent.

Coach Pikiell's squad then opens up the home schedule on November 19 against Navy.

Following a road contest at Columbia (Nov. 25), the Seawolves play three straight games at home beginning with Maryland-Eastern Shore on November 28. Two days later, Villanova comes to town as the first nationally ranked men's team and only the second Big East team to play at the Indoor Sports Complex.

The non-conference homestand concludes with a matchup against local rival Hofstra (Dec. 5) on "Joe Nathan night." The former Stony Brook baseball standout and now two-time All-Star reliever for the Minnesota Twins will be honored during the game for his induction into the Stony Brook Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Seawolves finish up the non-conference slate with three of four games on the road beginning at New Jersey Institute of Technology (Dec. 11) and Dartmouth (Dec. 14). Stony Brook then returns home to face Fairleigh Dickinson (Dec. 16) before wrapping up the non-conference slate against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame (Dec. 30).

Stony Brook will open its conference schedule playing four of their first six contests at home. The Seawolves travel to Vermont on January 3 for the conference opener and then host UMBC three days later. Stony Brook will then play host to Binghamton on January 9 before traveling to take on the Hartford Hawks (Jan. 13). Albany (Jan. 15) and Boston University (Jan. 18) will visit Stony Brook before the Seawolves head north to challenge New Hampshire on January 21. Coach Pikiell and his squad will play back-to-back home games against Maine (Jan. 25) and Vermont (Jan. 28) before playing two away contests at Binghamton (Jan. 31) and UMBC (Feb. 3). Three of the last five games will be on the road for Stony Brook, starting with a home game versus Hartford on February 11. Stony Brook will head to BU on February 11 before returning for their final home game of the season against New Hampshire on February 19. The Seawolves close out their regular season schedule with two road games against defending America East champion Albany on February 22 and Maine on February 25.

Boston University will play host to the America East Championship starting March 2. The tournament is returning to Boston University after Binghamton hosted the tournament for the past two years. The first round, quarterfinals and semifinals will be played at BU's Agganis Arena. The title game will be played at the highest remaining seed's home court and appear on ESPN2.
