Seniors Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y) and Morgan Sweany (Mission Viejo, Calif.) each recorded a match-high 13 kills as the Stony Brook women's volleyball team rolled to its fourth straight victory, a 3-0 (30-24, 30-16, 30-18) victory over Maine on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Seawolves, who have won 13 of 14, go to 16-7 overall and 4-1 in the America East while the Black Bears fall to 2-17 and 1-5.
Ahlers had an season-high attack percentage of .706 for the Seawolves who also recorded a team season-best in attack percentage (.398). Junior Noelle Bay (Selden, N.Y.) led Stony Brook with a match-best 11 digs.
The opening game was tied at eight when the Seawolves went on a 8-1 run with the help of four Maine attack errors. The Black Bears would close to within three at 24-21 but an Ahlers kill and a Maine attack error pushed the lead back to five and the Seawolves would go on to win 30-24.
Stony Brook held a slim 9-7 lead early in game two before going on a 10-1 run, highlighted by three kills from Sweany, to take a 19-8 advantage. The Seawolves would coast from there to a 30-16 victory.
Game three was much of the same as the Seawolves broke open a close game early on with a 14-2 run that gave them a 21-9 lead. Maine would get no closer than eight the rest of the way as Stony Brook closed out the game and the match on two more Maine attack errors.
The Seawolves return to action on Friday, traveling to take on Hartford at 6 p.m.
