Hanover, N.H. -
Stony Brook's women's tennis team closed out its fall season over the weekend with an appearance at the Big Green Invitational hosted by Dartmouth. The Seawolves fared well, with five players each coming away with a pair of wins in three chances in singles play. Junior Erica Federgreen (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and sophomore Claudia Sanua (Bryanston, South Africa) each totaled four wins between singles and doubles play to lead Stony Brook.
Sanua played all three of her singles matches in the No. 2 flight where she started by picking up a 6-3, 2-6 (10-3) win over Anne Houghton of Army. After dropping a match to Candynce Boney from UMass, Sanua then claimed her second win of the singles action with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Ally Wickman of Syracuse. Sophomore Paola Rodolfi (Asuncion, Paraguay) also won two of three for Stony Brook, all in the No. 1 flight. After taking a straight sets win over Sarah Giles-Madden of Army, she dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Masha Pozar from UMass. She then came back to take a 6-3, 6-4 over Jacquelynn Tan of Syracuse. She and Sanua also teamed up in doubles play to take a close 9-8 (4) win over Ford/Belcher from Army.
Federgreen picked her two singles wins in exciting style, dropping the first set in each before coming back for the wins. Against Paige Ford from Army she won by a 4-6, 6-0 (10-7) margin while also getting a similar 2-3, 6-3 (13-11) victory over Kaitlyn Carpenter of UMass.
Seniors Sandy Wijeratne (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) and Victoria Vovsha (Forest Hills, N.Y.) were the other two Seawolves to pick up two singles wins. Wijeratne picked up straight sets victories over Katlyn Haycock from Syracuse and Tanisha Hodgson of UMass, while Vovsha scored a straight sets win over Audrey Hansen from Army while also notching a 6-3, 3-6 (10-8) win over Tang.
Federgreen and Sanua teamed up to bring home the only other doubles wins for Stony Brook. The pair downed Kalhorn/Jones from Syracuse by a 9-7 score and Pozar/Boney from UMass by an 8-5 margin.
