Gameday: Men's Basketball Set For Showdown With In-State Rival Hofstra

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University men's basketball team will try to pick up its second straight victory, and pick up its first road win of the season on Wednesday night, traveling to take on in-state rival Hofstra at the Mack Sports Complex. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast locally on WLIR 107.1 FM.

Series History: Hofstra leads the series 17-3 and has won three straight meetings. The last Stony Brook victory came in the 2003-04 season when the Seawolves rallied for a 70-69 victory behind a game-high 27 points from D.J. Munir. The victory marks the last time the Pride lost a home game to a non-conference opponent. Last season the Seawolves fell to the visiting Pride at Stony Brook Arena before 2,701 fans on Joe Nathan Night. Ricky Lucas scored a team-high 18 points for the SBU but Hofstra used 19 points from Antoine Agudio and a 18-2 first half run on its way to the 73-57 victory.

Last Time Out: Senior Mitchell Beauford (Queens, N.Y.) scored a game-high 16 points and senior Ricky Lucas (Herndon, Va.) added 12 points and eight rebounds as the Stony Brook men's basketball team held on late for a 62-53 victory over NJIT on Monday night at Stony Brook Arena, its second win in three games.

Scouting the Pride: Hofstra (1-4) is led by senior Antoine Agudio who ist he nation's leading scorer at 27.6 points per game after pouring in 36 points, including 30 in the second half, in the Pride's 73-71 loss to Fordham last Wednesday. Aguidio is shooting 45 percent from the field and from beyond the arc and has taken over twice as many shots (102) as any player on the Pride roster. Hofstra has compiled a 31-2 regular season record at home over the last four years.

Under 40: The Seawolves have won two of their last three games, holding their opponents to 35.4 percent shooting in those contests. SBU has now held just three opponents under 40 percent shooting after finishing fourth in the conference in defensive field goal percentage last season.

Eddie Returns To Starting Five: Sophomore guard Eddie Castellanos made his first start of the season on Monday against NJIT after starting all but of the Seawolves 29 contests last season. Castellanos had a solid game, scoring four pointsin 17 minutes of action.

High Turnover: Stony Brook forced 23 turnovers on Monday against NJIT, something the Seawolves also did against Kentucky earlier this season. SBU has not committed more tunrovers than its opponents since the third game of the season

Counting On Carter: Junior Nick Carter had one of his best games of the season for the Seawolves on Monday against NJIT. The local product played a season-high 26 minutes, scoring eight points and going 2-for-2 from three-point land.
