Fullerton, Calif. -
A five-set win over host Cal State Fullerton and loss to Bowling Green capped the final games as the Stony Brook volleyball team went 1-2 at the Titan Classic this past weekend. Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y.) was named to the all-tournament team for her accomplishments during the weekend.
The trio of Ahlers, Morgan Sweany (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Amy Oleksiej (Coram, N.Y.) led the Seawolves in their win over the host Titans. All three players had double digit kills and combined for 42, overall.
After winning the first two sets, Fullerton came back to take the next two games, 30-16 and 30-26. But the Seawolves gained the momentum back in the final set, taking an early 4-0 lead. Fullerton got within one point at 5-4 before Stony Brook pulled away for the 15-9 game five win and the match.
Against Bowling Green, Stony Brook tied the game at one behind the seven kills of Ahlers and 17 assists of Kaitlyn Deutsch (St. Louis, Mo.).
Bowling Green would win the next two sets and the match, three games to one.
Stony Brook is back in action with its home opener against St. John's. First set is scheduled for 7 pm.
