Stony Brook's women's tennis team completed play at their own Seawolf Invitational today with play in doubles action. Yesterday the team saw singles action during which senior Sandy Wijeratne (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) and junior Erica Federgreen (Scottsdale, Ariz.) each won two matches.
Wijeratne won both of her singles matches on Saturday in straight sets. She took a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Robie Verand of Army and dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jessica Orton of Alabama-Birmingham. Stony Brook won all three of its matches against UAB, with sophomore Paola Rodolfi (Asuncion, Paraguay) taking a 6-3, 6-1 win and sophomore Claudia Sanua (Bryanston, South Africa) coming out on top by a 6-2, 6-2 score.
In today's doubles play the Seawolves were held to just one win in six tries. The duo of Sanua and sophomore Shaina Murugan (Manalapan, N.J.) taking an easy 8-0 win over a team from Long Island University.
The Seawolves will be in action again next Saturday, October 6 when they host Hofstra and St. Peter's. The match with Hofstra will start at 9:00 a.m., with the St. Peter's contested scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
