Second-half goals from Trine Allenberg (Roberts, Wisc.) and Aria Tanzi (Smithtown, N.Y.) helped propel the Stony Brook women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Iona and its second consecutive shutout to start the season. Stony Brook is 2-0 while Iona falls to 0-2.
After a scoreless first half, Stony Brook began to attack the offensive zone and in the 71st minute it paid off. After forcing an Iona turnover, Danielle Tenaglia (North Reading, Mass.) fed Allenberg with a great pass. Allenberg took one dribble to her right and shot over it over Iona Keeper Suzanne Baldissard for the 1-0 lead.
Five minutes later and in the 77th minute, Tanzi recorded her first goal of the season with a nearly identical shot. Tanzi took two dribbles and put the ball just by the keeper for the 2-0 advantage.
Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.) was stellar in net again for the Seawolves, making three saves.
Stony Brook travels to Virginia this weekend for the George Mason Tournament. The Seawolves face the host Patriots on Friday night at 7:30.
