Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Stony Brook University's volleyball team has signed two student-athletes to national letters of intent, announced head coach Deborah Matejka-DesLauriers on Tuesday. Corinne Perry and Greta Strenger will join the Seawolves as freshman for the 2009 season.
A native of Northport, N.Y., Perry played for the Academy Elite club team. The 5'9'' setter also led her high school team a 10-2 record this season.
"She has good game instincts and know how to put her hitters in positions to be successful," said Matejka-DesLauriers. "Corrine has the ability to lead us and provide depth at the setter position. She's a spark plug who has a great passion for the game."
Strenger is from Woodbury, Minnesota and played with the Northern Lights club team, the same team as sophomore Alicia Nelson (Apple Valley, Minn.) played with in high school. The 5'11'' swing hitter helped lead the Northern Lights to an 18-1 record this season, finishing fifth in the Open Division at Nationals.
"Greta is an intense competitor who will make us better, both offensively and defensively," said Matejka-DesLauriers. "She is a great student and is a perfect fit for our program both academically and athletically. We are looking forward to working with such a hard working all-around player."
