Swimming & Diving Dominant in Meet Against Iona and St. Francis (N.Y.)

New Rochelle, N.Y. - Stony Brook's swimming & diving teams swept their meet against Iona and St. Francis (N.Y.) at the Hynes Athletic Center on Tuesday night. The men's team beat Iona 69-39 and St. Francis (N.Y.) 96-9, while the women beat the Gaels by a score of 71.5-41.5 and St. Francis (N.Y.) 85-28. Sophomore Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) set a new school record in the 200-yard IM during the meet, finishing the race in 1:56.11. The men's team is now 3-4 on the season and the women are 3-5.

Ochmanski had two other first place finishes on the night, completing the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:05.64 and swimming the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.32). Joining Ochmanski in that relay were freshman Sean Conway (Oakdale, N.Y.), sophomore Chris Olwell (Floral Park, N.Y.) and freshman Ildar Khabibrakhmanov (Syosset, N.Y.). Conway also took first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.70).

The men's team had two other athletes each win two events; senior Julian Acevedo (Long Island City, N.Y.) swept the diving events (257.15 in the one-meter and 237.95 in the three-meter) and freshman Zackery Good (Columbus, Ind.) won the 200 (1:48.80) and 500-yard freestyles (4:56.16).

Multiple winners on the women's side included freshman Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) who won the 500 (5:06.12) and 1,000-yard freestyles (10:37.82). She also swam the anchor leg for the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. Joining her in that relay were sophomore Adrienne Policht (Mississauga, Canada), junior Rebecca Sayles (Calgary, Alberta) and junior Tracey Klicpera (Farmingdale, N.Y.). Policht also won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.37. Fellow Canadian and freshman Mallory Breen (Quispamsis, Canada) also won two events, touching first in the 200-yard IM (2:17.74) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.50).

Rounding out the first-place finishes for the Seawolves were sophomore Anastasiya Kiryushkina (Moscow, Russia) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.94), freshman Mark Anderson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) in the 100-yard backstroke (56.71) and freshman Ian Francis (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.68).

The Seawolves are not in action again until next month when they travel to Key Largo, Florida to take part in the Orange Bowl Classic on January 3rd.
