Brooke Knowlton scored two goals to lead #13 Boston College to a 5-0 victory over the Stony Brook women's soccer team at Newton Campus Soccer Field on Friday night. The Seawolves fall to 3-3 while the Eagles improve to 5-1.
Boston College nearly took a quick lead just 2:27 in but junior goalkeeper Marisa Viola (Cutchogue, N.Y.) stopped a Gina Dimartino penalty kick to keep the game scoreless. The Eagles struck minutes later though as Julia Bouchelle took a pass from Kelly Henderson and put it past Viola to give Boston College a 1-0 lead.
The Seawolves battled back and held BC without a goal until the 32nd minute when Knowlton scored to push the Boston College advantage to 2-0. Stephanie Wirth scored minutes before the break to send the Eagles into halftime with a 3-0 lead. Viola made four saves in the opening period for Stony Brook.
Knowlton scored another goal in the 58th minute to make it 4-0 as the Eagles went on to their third straight win. Viola made seven saves for the Seawolves while Jillian Mastroianii and Sarah Buonomo combined to make three saves for the Eagles.
Stony Brook returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 16, hosting Bryant at 7 p.m.
