Final Stats
Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Liam Maloney's goal in the 62nd minute was the game's only goal in Towson's 1-0 win over the Stony Brook men's soccer team on Saturday evening at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves are 2-5-1 while Towson improves to 4-2-0.
Stony Brook controlled much of the action in the first half on offense while defensively, limiting the Towson offense to zero shots. Freshman Jherrett Maroney (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) had the best scoring opportunity for either team, heading a shot Towson keeper John Steele had to make a diving save for in the 37th minute.
The pace began to pick up in the 59th minute. Senior keeper Dawid Ditrich (Gdansk, Poland) saved Towson's first scoring opportunity when Tommy Appel-Schumaker's header was punched over the crossbar. On the ensuing Stony Brook possession, junior James Palumbo (Carmel, N.Y.) gathered a loose ball and blasted it from 30 yards out but his attempt was blocked.
Towson scored three minutes later when Marco Mangione dribbled down the goal line and slipped a pass to Liam Maloney, whose shot went just by a diving Ditrich.
The Seawolves had two more scoring chances but freshman Yannick Prescod's (Rochester, N.Y.) shot was blocked and sophomore Greg Tinari's (Holbrook, N.Y.) attempt was high.
Stony Brook begins a four-game road trip starting with Marist on Wednesday evening. Kick-off is slated for 7 pm.
