Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's baseball team recently helped out in the fight against leukemia, lending its hand in a campus bone marrow drive held at the Student Activities Center. The purpose of the drive was to raise awareness of the need for bone marrow and stem cell donors in addition to allowing students and faculty the opportunity to register as potential bone marrow and stem cell donors.

Members of the baseball team not only registered themselves as donors but also handed out fliers around campus in an effort to have others sign up for the registry. It was the first ever campus-wide bone marrow drive.

The three-day drive was run by the Stony Brook University Medical Center with help from DKMS, the world's largest bone marrow donor center as well as Prevail," an organization that helps families of young patients in need of bone marrow transplants.
