Stony Brook University's volleyball team placed five members on America East All-Conference teams, according to a release from the league office today. Senior Harmonie Calinda (Huntington, N.Y.) was voted on to the first team, senior Lindsey Gordon (N. Patchogue, N.Y.) and junior Ashley Headen (Alexandria, Va.) were named to the second team and freshmen Sally Downs (Coppell, Texas) and Corinne Perry (Northport, N.Y.) made the All-Rookie team. The five award winners is the most for Stony Brook since it placed five on the 2006 all-conference team.
Calinda led the Seawolves offense for most of the season, accumulating a team and conference-high 387 kills for an average of 4.03 kills per set. She also made an impact defensively, finishing second on the team with 330 digs, a 3.44 digs/set average. She recorded 20 double-doubles, including a 23 kill, 21 dig performance against Toledo. Calinda also led the conference in points, scoring 443 for the season and finishing 25.5 points ahead of the second-place player.
Gordon and Headen were two of Stony Brook's most consistent attackers this season as they both registered hitting percentages better than .310. Gordon finished third on the team with 202 total kills while registering a .311 hitting percentage. Towards the end of the season she had a four-match stretch were she committed just three errors in 64 attempts while averaging an even 4.00 kills/set. Her 57 blocks ranked second on the team behind Headen's 92. Headen also led the team in attack percentage, finishing the season at .328. She recorded the first double-double of her career against Hartford, registering ten blocks and ten kills.
With six seniors on the roster, Downs battled her way into the regular rotation while racking up 112 kills on the season, the most for a Seawolf freshman since 2005. She recorded a career-best 10 kills in a win over Columbia. Orchestrating the Seawolves offense for the majority of the season, Perry dished out 756 total assists. Her 8.22 assists/set ranked fifth in the conference. Her average improved to 9.83 in conference play as did her defense, ranking 19th overall with 1.97 digs/set. She recorded three double-doubles, including a 54 assist, 11 dig performance against Toledo.
