Stony Brook University sophomore guard Bryan Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J.) has been selected as one of 72 candidates for the Bob Cousy Award, awarded annually to the top point guard in college basketball. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in conjunction with The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. announced this year's candidates on Wednesday.
Dougher has helped the Seawolves to their best start since 1992-93 (7-3), starting all 10 games and averaging 12.4 points per contest. He has led Stony Brook in scoring four times this season and ranks fourth in the America East in three-point field goals per game (2.4).
This original list of candidates will be narrowed down to a final 20 by January 1, 10 by February 1, and the final five by March 1. The winner of the 2010 Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford will be presented at the Hall of Fame's Class Announcement on Monday, April 5 in Indianapolis as part of NCAA Final Four weekend.
Stony Brook returns to action on Sunday, traveling to take on Sacred Heart. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
