Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score
Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Senior Marissa Fleury (Mahopac, N.Y.) hit two home runs and classmate Kelsi Fanelli (Audubon, N.J.) went 5-for-5 with five runs scored in Stony Brook's doubleheader sweep of Vermont on Sunday afternoon. The Seawolves received a pair of well pitched games from juniors Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) and Casey Jacobs (Davie, Fla.) as they went on to run-rule the Catamounts in both games, 9-0 in five innings and 9-1 in six. With the wins, Stony Brook improves to 25-7 (8-2 America East) while Vermont falls to 6-25 (3-5 America East).
Things started off slowly for Stony Brook in game one, as it managed just one hit over the first two innings. A pair of miscues to start off the third by Vermont, however, opened the flood gates as the Seawolves pushed seven runs across. Junior Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.) started the scoring barrage off with a three-run homer to right field, the first of two home runs Stony Brook would hit in the inning. Five batters later, senior Molly Kestranek (St. Mary's, Ga.) knocked a three-run shot of her own over the left field fence, plating the Seawolves fifth unearned run of the inning.
Up 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Fanelli led off with a walk before Fleury ended the game with bomb over the center field fence, her tenth homer of the season.
Struzenberg was nearly perfect in the circle, allowing only a pair of hits and two walks in five innings. She fanned eight batters while winning her 14th game of the season.
Jacobs was also impressive in game two, holding the Catamounts to just one run on three hits and a walk in six innings. 13 of the 18 outs she recorded were on groundballs, four via strikeout.
SBU was very efficient offensively, scoring nine times on ten hits and two walks. The Seawolves spread out the scoring in game two notching at least one run in every inning of play, including a game-high three in the sixth. Fleury ended both games with home runs; this time a two-run shot to left-center field.
Stony Brook's four seniors - Fleury, Fanelli, Kestranek and Kelly Oberto (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) - combined to go 12-for-19 with 12 RBI and 11 runs scored.
The final game of this series will be played on Monday at 12:00 p.m.
