Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Sophomore forward Tommy Brenton (Columbia, Md.) of the Stony Brook University men's basketball team was named the SimplexGrinnell Stony Brook Athlete of the Week on Monday after scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the Seawolves 69-63 win over the New Hampshire Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
With the Seawolves leading by two in the final 30 seconds against New Hampshire, Brenton grabbed an offensive rebound off a miss from sophomore Bryan Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J.). He then passed it to junior Chris Martin (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.), who was fouled and knocked down two free throws with 15 seconds left to seal the game for the Seawolves.
Brenton has scored in double-figures in three of the last four games and ranks second in the America East in rebounds per game (9.4). He is averaging a double-double (11.8 points per game, 10.0 rebounds per game) during Stony Brook's four-game winning streak.
