Stony Brook's head swimming and diving coach Dave Alexander has announced the hiring of Chris Brandenberger as assistant coach. Brandenberger comes to Stony Brook after two years at Iona College.
Prior to Iona, Brandenberger served as an assistant coach at Washington College in Chestertown, Md for two years.
The Stony Brook native and Ward Melville graduate was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Maryland. A first team All-ACC selection in 2004, Brandenberger is part of a school record in the 800 freestyle relay. He was a two-time team captain as voted by his teammates and coaches for strong commitment to teamwork and leadership. He received the Dave Diehl Dedication Award Recipient in 2004, which was voted by the coaching staff for most dedicated member of the team.
Brandenberger graduated from Maryland with a degree in English Language and Literature in 2006.
He also served as an undergraduate assistant coach for the Terrapins while completing his bachelor's degree as well as assisting at the Upper Montgomery County YMCA.
