Raphael Abreu has earned multiple honors for his two-goal performance in a 2-1 win at Binghamton last Saturday. He has been named the America East Co-Player of the Week, College Soccer News National Team of the Week and BigAppleSoccer.com Goal of the Week.
Abreu was all the offense the Seawolves needed in their overtime victory over the Bearcats. After falling behind 1-0, Abreu and the Seawolves answered with a 39th minute goal to tie the match. Abreu then capitalized on a rebound in the 100th minute to put in the game-winner.
The goals were Abreu’s fourth and fifth of the season, tying him with Berian Gobeil Cruz for second on the team and seventh in America East. It was his second game-winner of his career and his first-ever two-goal effort.
Stony Brook is now 7-1-3 over its last 11 matches and is in a second-place tie with Binghamton and UMBC in America East with two matches remaining in the regular season. Abreu and the Seawolves will play at Hartford Wednesday at 7 p.m., with a victory earning them a berth into the America East Championship.
