About the Game: Stony Brook returns from a nine-day layoff looking to start a new Pritchard Gymnasium winning streak, taking on Lehigh of the Patriot League. This is the eighth all-time matchup between the two teams, and Lehigh leads the all-time series 4-3, but the Seawolves have won the last two meetings by an average of 20 points and are 2-1 vs. Lehigh at home, including a 71-50 victory at Pritchard two seasons ago.
Scouting Lehigh: The Mountain Hawks are coming off their second-ever Patriot League championship and fourth NCAA Tournament appearance. Lehigh went 22-11 last season on its way to the tournament, where it was a No. 16 seed and lost to No. 1 Kansas. Under fourth-year head coach Brett Reed, the Mountain Hawks were picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League despite having reigning PL Player of the Year CJ McCollum on the roster. The Seawolves will have to contain the sophomore McCollum, who is averaging 22.5 points this season, including a career-high 42 at Kent State last Friday.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook had its worst shooting day of the season, managed to stay in the game and ultimately fell short of Wagner, losing 58-54, snapping a 10-game winning streak at Pritchard Gymnasium. Bryan Dougher led SBU with 15 points, but the Seawolves just could not put the ball in the basket. SBU outrebounded the Seahawks 49-30 and got to the foul line 28 times to help stay in the game.
Last Time vs. Lehigh: On Nov. 30, 2009, Bryan Dougher drained six three-pointers for 18 points, and Stony Brook held Lehigh to 30 percent shooting as the Seawolves doused the Mountain Hawks 71-50 in Bethlehem, Pa. Critical to SBU’s success was stopping the explosive CJ McCollum by holding him to 1-for-8 shooting and four points. Including Dougher, four Seawolves scored in double figures.
