Freshman Evann Slaughter (Clinton, Md.), of the Stony Brook University volleyball team, has been named America East Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Slaughter helped the Seawolves to a five-set win over the UMBC Retrievers on Sunday, which clinched Stony Brook's spot in the four-team America East tournament.
Slaughter recorded 12 kills and a career-high six blocks against the Retrievers. She recorded 17.0 points on the day and her block solos clinched both the fourth and fifth sets. The freshman middle blocker leads the Seawolves in blocks (65) and block solos (25).
The Seawolves have won three straight matches and will wrap up the regular season this weekend with road matches against Binghamton and Albany.
