About the Game: Stony Brook, which has played just one game over the last 18 days, returns from holiday break to host Colgate. The Seawolves have lost five of their last six games, but have an opportunity to get back on track before conference season begins Sunday. This is the fourth time these two teams have met, and Stony Brook has dominated the series, winning all three matchups by an average of 10 points.
Scouting Colgate: The Raiders are one of 14 winless Division I teams in the country. The team is being outscored by its opponents by an average of 18.3 points, but that number is deceiving as the team has given up 100+ points to a pair of nationally ranked teams in Duke and Syracuse. Colgate has four losses that have come by five points or less. Offensively challenged, Colgate has just one scorer in double figures, Yaw Gyawu, who is averaging 12.2 points a game.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook played with nationally ranked Notre Dame for the first 17 minutes before the powerful Fighting Irish pulled away for an 88-62 victory in South Bend, Ind. The Seawolves were trailing by only three in the first half when the Irish went on a 12-2 run to end the half. ND then opened the second half with a 14-5 run to put the game away. Marcus Rouse led the Seawolves with 15 points in the defeat. Stony Brook shot only 37.7 percent in the game while allowing ND to shoot 54 percent from the field.
Last Time vs. Colgate: On Dec. 12, 2009, the Seawolves overcame a poor shooting night to top the Raiders 66-55 in Hamilton, N.Y. Muhammad El-Amin scored 18 points to lead SBU. With the team clinging to a one-point lead, El-Amin sank a three-pointer at 2:56 that sparked a game-ending 12-2 run. Bryan Dougher chipped in 13 points. Kyle Roemer led Colgate with 18 points, and Yaw Gyawu added 15 for the Raiders, who shot only 32 percent in the second half.
