The No. 3 Stony Brook University women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2010 America East Tennis Championships on Friday morning with a 4-0 victory over the No. 6 Hartford Hawks. The Seawolves will now take on No. 2 Boston University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Seawolves opened the match by easily earning the doubles point. Sophomore Anna Pieschl (Gothenburg, Sweden) and junior Fanny Charliquart (Gueugnon, France) won 8-0 on No. 2 and sophomore Katherine Hanson (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Salome Mkervalidze (Brewster, N.Y.) also won 8-0 at No. 3.
SBU coasted in singles play as well as senior Paola Rodolifi (Asuncion, Paraguay) and junior Gayatri Krishnan (Chennai, India) each won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, to give the Seawolves a 3-0 lead. Pieschl also won without losing a game at No. 2 to secure the victory for the Seawolves.
