El-Amin signs professional contract to play in Hungary

Sept. 21, 2010

Former Stony Brook men’s basketball great Muhammad El-Amin (Lansing, Mich./Holt) has signed a professional contract to play basketball in Hungary. El-Amin will compete for the PVSK Pannonpower Pecs basketball team in the Hungary-A Division.

The Lansing, Mich., native left Stony Brook as one of the program’s most decorated athletes. He was named the 2010 America East Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring with a 19.1 points per average during conference play. He also broke the school’s all-time Division I single-season scoring record with 517 points. Other accolades included Sporting News America East Player of the Year, first-team All-America East, first-team All-Met and second-team All-NABC District 1.

El-Amin played in 60 career games at Stony Brook after transferring from Lansing Community College prior to the 2008-09 season. He scored 971 points in his two years, leading the Seawolves in scoring both seasons.

In 2009-10, El-Amin led Stony Brook to a Division I program record 22 victories and its first-ever postseason appearance, an NIT home game against Illinois. The Seawolves won their first-ever America East regular season championship, posting a 13-3 record. El-Amin played a large role in the title run by scoring 19-plus points in 10 of Stony Brook’s 16 conference games, including a career-high 31 against Binghamton on Feb. 13.

El-Amin is joining a PVSK team that went 9-17 last season under head coach Mavrenski Ivica. Among the other Americans on the team are former Tennessee Tech guard Anthony Fisher, Wake Forest forward Tate Decker and Central Michigan forward Sefton Barrett.
