About the Game: Stony Brook returns home for a Saturday afternoon tilt with New Hampshire, looking to snap a three-game losing streak. This is a matchup between the top two scoring defenses in America East and in the country. This is also the 21st all-time meeting between the two teams, and New Hampshire holds a healthy 14-6 advantage in the series.
Scouting New Hampshire: The Wildcats opened the season winning five of their first seven games, but has since lost seven of their last nine, including conference defeats to Albany, Boston University and Binghamton. Defense is the name of UNH’s game, sporting the league’s top scoring defense and holding opponents under 60 points six times this year. Conversely, UNH has also struggled to put points on the board as the team has failed to score 60 points nine times this season. Injuries have been a part of UNH’s season, losing two starters (Alvin Abreu & Ferg Myrick) to season-ending injuries. Senior guard Tyrone Conley has picked up the slack, scoring a career-high 33 vs. Hartford last Wednesday.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook shot only 29 percent for the game and allowed Binghamton’s Moussa Camara to score 29 points in a 57-50 loss to the Bearcats last Monday. The Seawolves trailed for most of the game, but had gotten within one possession late in the contest, but the offense went cold, missing its final six shots. Marcus Rouse led Stony Brook with 14 points.
Last Time vs. New Hampshire: On Feb. 28, 2010, New Hampshire shot 50 percent from the field and connected on nine three-pointers to rout Stony Brook 77-55 in Durham, N.H. Ferg Myrick led all scorers with 21 points. The Seawolves shot 42.6 percent for the day, but committed 16 turnovers that turned into 22 UNH points. Muhammad El-Amin and Bryan Dougher each scored 13 points to lead SBU.
