About the Game: Stony Brook looks to take New England by storm as it goes for a road victory at Boston University in a rematch of last season’s America East semifinal match. This is the 21st all-time meeting between the two teams, and BU holds a commanding 14-6 series lead, but the Seawolves won both regular season matchups last year.
Scouting BU: The Terriers were picked to finish first in America East this season, but it’s been a bumpy ride for BU so far. After winning four of its first seven, the team has since gone 4-8. Despite a field goal percentage under 40 percent, the Terriers have scored 70+ points seven times, thanks in large part to a three-point field goal percentage that ranks second in the league. BU averages 8.4 three-pointers made per game. John Holland is the league’s leading scorer at 19.1 PPG. Stepping up his game during conference play is Darryl Partin, who is averaging 17.6 PPG in conference as opposed to 12.3 in non-conference. The pair combine for 50 percent of BU’s points this season.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook suffered a 52-50 loss to Albany after an offensive drought in the second half. After a first half that ended in a 33-33 tie, Albany used three-pointers to open up an 11-point lead. Stony Brook then held the Great Danes to one point in the game’s final nine minutes, but could not overtake Albany after going only 1-for-7 from the free throw line. Bryan Dougher led the Seawolves with 20 points.
Last Time vs. BU: On March 7, 2010 in the America East semifinals, Stony Brook rallied from a 13-point, halftime deficit to take a five-point lead with 6:42 to play, but the Terriers ended the game on a 22-10 run to earn a 70-63 win and eliminate the Seawolves. Corey Lowe had 24 points to pace BU, and Muhammad El-Amin had 20 points for Stony Brook, but he also committed eight of SBU’s 19 turnovers.
