About the Game: Stony Brook looks to build a three-game winning streak when it hosts defending America East champion Vermont. It’s a matchup of last season’s regular season champ against the tournament champ. It is also a battle of the top two teams in America East over the last two seasons. Vermont has had a lopsided advantage in the series, leading 15-4, but the Seawolves won both matchups last season.

Scouting Vermont: Vermont was the class of America East during non-conference play, posting a 9-3 record, faring particularly well against members of the MAAC conference, which the Catamounts went 4-1 against. Although they were picked to finish fifth in America East this season, UVM is poised to defend its 2010 conference championship. Leading the way is forward Evan Fjeld, who is averaging 17.5 PPG and 7.0 RPG. Making a bid for Rookie of the Year is Brian Voelkel, who is leading the league in rebounding (10.0 RPG) and is second in assists (5.0 APG).

Last Time Out: Marcus Rouse scored 17 points, and Danny Carter scored all 10 of his points during crunch time to lead the Seawolves to a 64-56 win over UMBC last Sunday. Stony Brook had built a double-digit lead only to see UMBC close to within one late in the second half. But Carter sank a pair of three-pointers, and SBU went 8-for-8 from the free throw line at the end of the game to preserve the victory.

Last Time vs. Vermont: On Feb. 24, 2010 and on its home court in front of a sold out crowd, Stony Brook clinched its first-ever America East regular season championship with an 82-78 victory over the Catamounts. The Seawolves shot a season-high 54.7 percent from the field and had four players in double figure scoring, led by Muhammad El-Amin’s 23 points. SBU led by as many as 20 in the second half and survived a late UVM rally, fueled by Evan Fjeld’s 24 points.
