About the Game: Stony Brook looks to avoid a three-game losing streak and head home on a happy note as it takes on Binghamton in what is the Seawolves’ oldest rivalry in its 51-year basketball history. This is the 51st all-time meeting between the two schools, and the Bearcats lead the series 27-23 and have won six of the last seven matchups. Stony Brook has struggled in Vestal, N.Y., having lost the last eight times it has visited Binghamton.
Scouting Binghamton: The Bearcats struggled during non-conference play, but in their America East opener they won at New Hampshire to gain some momentum. The team has won all four of its games by five points or less. At times, BU has struggled to score, scoring under 50 points four times this year. When the Bearcats do score, it’s usually Greer Wright doing the damage. He averages 15.7 points a game and also leads the team in assists and steals. As a team, BU ranks second to last in the league in scoring offense and defense and field goal percentage allowed and ranks last in rebounding. BU has been outrebounded in all but one game this season.
Last Time Out: The Stony Brook offense went cold in a 60-52 loss to Cornell Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y. The Seawolves shot only 34.8 percent from the field and had only two three-pointers. The SBU defense held Cornell to 36 percent shooting, but the Big Red did have seven three-pointers. Bryan Dougher led Stony Brook with 12 points.
Last Time vs. Binghamton: On Feb. 13, 2010, Muhammad El-Amin scored a career-high 31 points to lead Stony Brook to an 81-61 rout of the Bearcats at Pritchard Gym. El-Amin was 10-for-19 from the field and had 19 of his 31 in the first half. SBU shot 50.9 percent for the game and held the Bearcats to 34 percent shooting. Greer Wright scored 28 points and Moussa Camara had 18 for Binghamton, but the rest of the team only had 15.
