Junior Nini Lagvilava's (Tbilisi, Georgia) run at the 2011 USTA/ITA Division I Women's Northeast Regional Championship came to an end on Monday afternoon as she fell in three sets to Hanna Yu of Yale in the quarterfinal round.
Lagvilava won the opening set 6-1, but then dropped the final two sets 7-6, 6-1. Seeded No. 13, Lagvilava was the first player in program history, men's or women's, to advance to the quarterfinals of the Northeast Regionals.
She advanced to the quarterfinals with a pair of victories on Sunday. In her first match on Sunday, Lagvilava defeated Aleksandra Ion of Brown 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 32.
She then knocked off the No. 2 seed, Anna Rapoport of Fairleigh Dickinson, in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) to advance to the quarterfinals.
