Oct. 24, 2011

Cambridge, Mass. - Senior Alicia Nelson (Apple Valley, Minn.), of the Stony Brook University volleyball team, has been named the America East Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. It is her third Player of the Week honor this season.

Nelson had 25 kills and 19 digs in Stony Brook's five set win over UMBC on Saturday. It was the 11th double-double of the season for Nelson, who leads the America East in kills per set (4.32) and points per set (4.82).

Stony Brook (12-9, 5-2 AE) has won four straight and five of its last six and is in third place in the conference standings, just a game behind Albany and New Hampshire who are tied for first at 6-1. The 5-2 record in conference play is the Seawolves best after seven matches since going 6-1 in 2007.

SBU return to action on Friday, traveling to take on Binghamton. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
