Nelson takes home Player of the Week honors

Oct. 3, 2011

Cambridge, Mass. - Senior Alicia Nelson (Apple Valley, Minn.), of the Stony Brook University volleyball team, has been named America East Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Nelson tied a career-best with 26 kills in the Seawolves five-set win over Binghamton on Sunday.

Nelson added 12 digs against the Bearcats, her fifth double-double in the last six matches. She had 18 kills on a .350 attack percentage against Albany on Friday night.

This was the third time in the first six weeks of the season that a Stony Brook player has earned the honor. Nelson is first in the America East in kills per set (4.11) and points per set (4.61) for SBU, who has won five of their last six matches.

The Seawolves return to action on Friday, traveling to take on New Hampshire. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
