Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Juniors William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, have been named Louisville Slugger Preseason All-Americans, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper announced on Tuesday. Carmona was named to the first team as a DH and Tissenbaum to the third team at second base.
Carmona hit .357 last season and set school records for hits (80) and doubles (27) as he became the first America East player since 1998 to be named a first team All-American. The 2011 America East Player of the Year, Carmona ranked third in the nation in doubles and led the America East in five offensive categories including hits and average.
Tissenbaum earned first team All-America East honors last season, hitting .343 with 20 doubles and 43 RBI. An ABCA All-Northeast Region second team selection, Tissenbaum led the America East with 55 runs scored and ranked second in the conference in RBI and on-base percentage (.433).
Carmona and Tissenbaum are just the latest Seawolves to earn preseason honors as junior centerfielder Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.) was named a preseason All-American by the NCBWA last week.
Carmona and Tissenbaum were the only two America East players on the team and SBU was the only school in the Northeast Region with two position players on the team.
Stony Brook won a school record 42 games in 2011 on its way to its first America East regular season title.
The Seawolves return 20 letterwinners from that squad and will open the 2012 season against Alabama State and Nicholls State at the Colonel Round Robin Tournament on Feb. 24.
