Boyds, Md. - The Stony Brook swimming and diving teams completed day three at the America East Championship on Saturday at the Germantown Aquatic Center and currently stand fourth on the men's side and sixth on the women's side.
Freshman Renee Deschenes (Winnipeg, Manitoba) produced a brilliant effort in the 100 backstroke to finish first in 55.60. Deschenes also took seventh-place in the women's 100 butterfly with a time of 56.48 to set a new personal best in the event. Meanwhile, in the men's 100 butterfly, senior Matthew McCort (Commack, N.Y.) also registered a top-10 finish by placing ninth in 51.74.
In the ensuing event, junior Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) also posted a ninth-place finish in the 200 freestlye with a season-best time of 1:50.74. Senior Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) then produced the Seawolves' top finish of the men's competiton thus far by placing second in the 200 free in 1:39.21. Junior Zackery Good (Columbus, Ind.) joined Ochmanski in the top-10 by touching 10th in 1:44.43.
Freshman Veronica Reid (Duncan, British Columbia) added another top-10 finish when she touched seventh in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.35. Junior Mark Anderson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) also finished seventh in the men's 100 breaststroke, while freshman Zachary Auclair (Tolland, Conn.) took 10th.
In the final event of the day, the 400 medley relay, the Seawolves placed fourth on both sides. The women's quartet of Deschenes, Reid, Heuser and sophomore Julie Policht (Toronto, Ontario) improved upon their season-best time by eight seconds to finish in 3:49.56. The men's team of Anderson, Ochmanski, McCort and sophomore Daniel Wenzel (Norwich, N.Y.) bested their previous season mark by over 12 seconds to finish in 3:29.17.
The Seawolves will wrap up the 2011 America East Championship on Sunday starting at 10 a.m.
