About the Game: For the second time in two weeks, the Seawolves and Terriers square off as the teams begin jockeying for seeding in the America East Tournament. Stony Brook stands in fifth place and is only 1.5 games behind the Terriers for third place. This is the 22nd all-time meeting, and the Terriers lead the series 15-6. The Seawolves have won the last two matchups at home, and BU is averaging only 56 points over its last three appearances at Pritchard Gym.
Scouting BU: The Terriers sit in third place in the conference and are in search of their first conference title since 2002. BU has won six of its last nine games, but has struggled mightily on the road. The team is 1-10 away from Boston and is averaging 59.3 points on the road. However, BU is a threat every night thanks to John Holland, who is a leading candidate for America East Player of the Year. He is averaging a league best 18.9 PPG. The team is missing major production from junior forward Jake O’Brien, who is out for the season with a knee injury. He was averaging 11.6 PPG. The Terriers rely heavily on the three-pointer. They average 22.4 attempts per game.
Last Time Out: Bryan Dougher connected on five three-pointers, including two critical ones late in the game, to lift Stony Brook to a 69-59 win over UMBC. The Seawolves shot 42 percent and held the Retrievers to 30 percent while also outrebounding them 41-36. Dougher finished with 19 points, and Dallis Joyner had 12 rebounds and three blocks.
Last Time vs. BU: On Jan. 20, the Seawolves had control of their game with the Terriers, but BU’s John Holland took over in the second half with 13 consecutive points as part of a 29-point night to lift his team to a 67-62 victory. SBU had started strong, but ended the game missing 20 of its last 27 shots. Dallis Joyner led the Seawolves with 15 points.
