Softball postponed Wednesday; travels to LIU Thursday

LIVE STATS: Stony Brook vs. Long Island

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The scheduled softball doubleheader against Fordham on Wednesday has been postponed due to inclement weather. Stony Brook will return to action on Thursday when it travels to Long Island University for a single game scheduled for 6 p.m.

Junior Bernadette Tenuto (Audubon, N.J.) has been an offensive tear as of late and leads the Seawolves with a .341 batting average, three home runs and 14 RBI. Tenuto has hit safely in seven of her last eight games and has posted a .500 average (9-for-18) with five RBI in her last four contests. Sophomore Taylor Chain (Gloucester, N.J.) has also been red hot. Chain went 8-for-14 (.571) at the plate and drove in seven runs last week en route to America East Player of the Week honors. In the circle, senior Colleen Matthes (Severn, Md.) continues to have a solid season as she leads the conference in innings pitched (133.1), strikeouts (110), appearances (25) and games started (21).

Long Island University
The Blackbirds (10-27) are led offensively by Emily Kakuska and Bianca Mejia, who have posted .349 and .343 batting averages, respectively. Kakuska owns a team-best 20 RBI, while both players have swatted three home runs. As a team, LIU is hitting .229, while allowing opponents to hit .307. In the circle, LIU's primary starter is Sarah Reynolds, who has appeared in 24 games and has registered a 4.76 ERA and a 5-16 record.

Last Time Out
The Seawolves took two of three at Maine over the weekend, earning their first two America East victories in the process. Stony Brook won the first game, 4-2, on the strength of a complete-game, three-hitter by Matthes. After dropping game two, 13-5, Stony Brook rebounded with a 9-5 win in the rubber match as the team pounded out 14 hits, including three apiece from junior Lauren Maloney (Las Vegas, Nev.) and freshman Jess Combs (Hammonton, N.J.).
