Softball welcomes Quinnipiac for Wednesday doubleheader

April 26, 2011

LIVE STATS: Game One | Game Two

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Having played seven of their last nine games on the road, the Stony Brook softball team will return home for a doubleheader on Wednesday against Quinnipiac at 2 p.m. The twin-bill will be a rematch of the teams’ meeting on Feb. 27, which Quinnipiac won, 8-2, at the Longwood Spring Classic.

In that game, the Bobcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back, despite committing five errors on the day. Stony Brook produced six hits off Quinnipiac starter Katie Alfiere, including two by junior Alyssa Hawley (Spokane, Wash.). The Seawolves are 6-6 all-time against the Bobcats dating back to 2001.

The Seawolves (15-24) continue to be led by junior Bernadette Tenuto (Audubon, N.J.), who raised her average to .347 over the weekend. Tenuto needs six RBI over the final 10 games of the regular season to match her career high of 23, which she posted last season. Junior Lauren Maloney (Las Vegas, Nev.) has hit safely in 11 of her last 13 games and is hitting .462 (18-for-39) over that span.

Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac (25-20) features a potent lineup with four players hitting over the .300 mark. Jordan Paolucci (.304) leads the team with 10 home runs and 24 RBI. Paolucci has accounted for more than half of the team’s 18 home runs this season as no other Quinnipiac player has more than two long-balls. Heather Schwartzburg is the Bobcats’ primary threat in the circle with a 17-9 record, including a 1.40 ERA and 217 strikeouts.

Last Time Out
The Seawolves earned a split at Rider on Easter Sunday, falling in the first game, 9-6, before taking the second, 7-3. Freshman Alex Clark (Warsaw, Va.) picked up her first collegiate win in the second game, tossing a complete-game with two strikeouts. Maloney had a stellar day at the plate, connecting on a home run in the first game and scoring three runs in the second.
