America East release
Cambridge, Mass. - Freshman Jessica Combs (Hammonton, N.J.) and junior Lauren Maloney (Las Vegas, Nev.) were selected to the America East All-Conference second team on Wednesday. In addition to the second-team honor, Combs was also named to the America East All-Rookie squad.
Combs, who split time at shortstop and left field, led all Stony Brook freshmen with a .299 batting average, 11 stolen bases and 18 RBI. The Hammonton, N.J. native smacked two home runs in her first season with Stony Brook, including the game-tying shot in the seventh inning against North Carolina State on March 11. Between March 11-30, Combs hit safely in 12 consecutive games, which represents the longest hitting streak of any Stony Brook player this season.
One of two players on the team to hit above .300, Maloney (.308) hit two home runs and knocked in 17 RBI in her first season as a Seawolf. The infielder led the team with 17 walks and was second on the squad with nine doubles and 26 runs scored. On March 11, Maloney hit the game-winning home run in the seventh inning to beat North Carolina State, before hitting a walk-off single to sink Fairfield on March 20.
The Seawolves finished the 2011 season with a 20-29 record, the 11th straight season in which the program has won at least 20 games.
