Cambridge, Mass. -
Sophomore second baseman Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario), of the Stony Brook University baseball team has been named America East Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Tissenbaum led the Seawolves to a three-game sweep of Binghamton over the weekend.
He hit .538 (7-for-13) in the three-game set against the Bearcats and had a career-high five hits in the opener including a double and a home run. Tissenbaum is hitting .349 with 18 doubles and 40 RBI and leads the America East in on-base percentage (.446) and runs scored with 49.
The first-place Seawolves have won 18 of their last 19 and are 37-10 overall and 18-2 in the America East. The 37 wins breaks the school single season wins mark of 36 set by the 1999 Seawolves at the Division II level and the 18 America East wins is also a program record.
Stony Brook returns to action on Friday, opening Joe Nathan Field with a doubleheader against Albany. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
The Seawolves will clinch the No. 1 seed and the right to host the 2011 America East tournament with one victory this weekend or one loss by second-place Maine.
