The Stony Brook men's soccer team went unbeaten during its spring training season, going 3-0-1, including wins over 2010 NCAA Div. II Championship semifinalist Dowling, New York Tech and Long Island University. The Seawolves are preparing for the 2011 season under first-year head coach Ryan Anatol.
“Overall I thought the spring was very positive," Anatol said. "The guys responded very well to the expectations we put on them and competed on a daily basis. I thought the team really improved as the semester progressed and we showed some very positive signs heading into the fall season."
Stony Brook opened the spring with a convincing 3-1 win over LIU, dominating most of the match, which the Seawolves had led 3-0 before allowing a late goal. In the second spring match, the Seawolves dispatched of New York Tech with an outstanding display of offense, winning 4-1.
Over the final spring weekend, the Seawolves blanked Dowling 2-0. The Golden Lions had most of their team back from last season's NCAA Div. II Championship semifinal appearance.
Less than 48 hours after beating Dowling, the Seawolves played Iona to a 1-1 tie. In the match, Iona scored 14 seconds into the contest on a defensive blunder, but the Seawolves dominated the rest of the match to earn the draw.
