Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Junior right-hander Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, has been named a second team All-American by the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association), the organization announced on Wednesday. A two-time All-American, Tropeano was drafted by the Houston Astros in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft last Tuesday.
Wednesday's announcement is just the latest honor for Tropeano, who was one of 40 players selected to College Baseball Lineup's All-Star team earlier on Wednesday. Named a Louisville Slugger second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper earlier this month, he was also one of 25 finalists for the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Pitcher of the Year award.
In late May, Tropeano became the first player in America East history to earn the conference's Pitcher of the Year award twice. In addition, he earned on spot on the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, which is given to the top amateur baseball player in the country.
Tropeano went 12-1 with a 1.84 ERA in 14 starts this season, setting America East single season records for wins and strikeouts (119). Tropeano ranked seventh in the country in victories and fifth in strikeouts per nine innings (11.52).
He led the 2011 Seawolves to their first America East regular season title and a school record 42 wins.
