Baseball has four named All-Region by ABCA

June 16, 2011

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's baseball team had four players named All-Northeast Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the organization announced on Thursday afternoon. Sophomore designated hitter William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) and junior right-hander Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.) were named to the first team while sophomore centerfielder Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.) and sophomore second baseman Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) earned a spot on the second team.

The 2011 America East Player of the Year, Carmona hit .357 and set school records for hits (80) and doubles (27) with the doubles mark ranking third in the nation. Named a first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper earlier this month, Carmona led the America East in five offensive categories including batting average, slugging percentage (.580) and hits.

Named a second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the NCBWA, Tropeano went 12-1 with a 1.84 ERA in 14 starts and set America East single season records for wins and strikeouts (119). Drafted by the Houston Astros in the fifth round of the MLB Draft last Tuesday, Tropeano was named to the Golden Spikes Midseason Watch list and was one of 25 finalists for the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Pitcher of the Year award in addition to becoming the first player in America East history to earn Pitcher of the Year honors twice.

Jankowski ranked second in the America East with a .355 batting average and ranked 14th in the nation with 31 steals in 34 attempts. An All-America East first team selection, Jankowski started 53 games in centerfield and did not make an error in 115 chances.

Tissenbaum led the America East with 55 runs scored while ranking second in RBI (43), third in doubles (20) and fourth in batting average (.343). An All-America East first team selection, Tissenbaum started all 54 games at second base and was 19th toughest player in the nation to strikeout (1/per 18 AB).

Each of the two All-Region teams consisted of three starting pitchers, one relief pitcher, three outfielders, a DH and one of each of the infield positions.

The Seawolves won a school record 42 games in 2011 and won their first ever America East regular season title.
