Carmona, Tropeano named All-Americans

June 2, 2011

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Sophomore designated hitter William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) and junior right-hander Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, have been named Louisville Slugger All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the publication announced on Thursday. Carmona becomes the program's first ever first team all-american while Tropeano was selected to the second team.

Named the America East Player of the Year last Tuesday, Carmona hit .357 and set school records for hits (80) and doubles (27) with the doubles mark ranking third in the nation. Carmona led the America East in five offensive categories including batting average, slugging percentage (.580) and hits.

Carmona is the first America East player to be named a first team All-American since Delaware's Kevin Mench in 1998.

One of 25 finalists for the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Pitcher of the Year Award, Tropeano set America East single season records for wins (12) and strikeouts (119). The first player in conference history to win America East Pitcher of the Year twice, Tropeano ranked second in the country in victories and fifth in strikeouts per nine innings (11.52).

The duo led the 2011 Seawolves to their first America East regular season title and a school record 42 wins.
