Cambridge, Mass. -
Stony Brook University's men's soccer team has been selected fourth in the America East preseason coaches poll, the conference office announced on Wednesday. The Seawolves 32 points were just one behind third place New Hampshire.
Boston University was the choice to win the conference, picking up 47 points and five of the seven first-place votes (coaches could not vote for their own teams). Defending champion UMBC received the other three first-place votes and was second with 43 points.
Binghamton (28 points) came in fifth, just behind SBU and New Hampshire. The poll was rounded out by Vermont (19), Hartford (15) and Albany (seven).
Stony Brook is entering its first year under head coach Ryan Anatol and is coming off a 10-7-3 season and third-place finish in America East. The Seawolves return 19 letterwinners from that team, including 2010 America East Midfielder of the Year Leonardo Fernandes, All-America East second team selection Raphael Abreu, seniors Kyle McTurk, Steven Medwinter, Serigne Sylla and Mame Samb and starting goalkeeper Stefan Manz.
The Seawolves open the 2011 season at Lehigh on Saturday, Aug. 27.
