Final Stats
Bronx, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team fell short on Sunday against Fordham, dropping a 2-0 decision at Jack Coffey Field. Sophomore Ashley Castanio (Oceanside, N.Y.) and freshman Allyson Lambros (La Habra, Calif.) split time in net and made seven saves.
A graduate of La Habra High School. Lambros entered the match with 20 minutes remaining and made two saves in her first collegiate action. Castanio stopped five shots in 70 minutes of action.
After a scoreless first half, the Rams (3-3-1) broke through in the 51st minute when Annie Worden finished off a cross from Maria Lorena Canicatti inside the box. Worden then added a second goal exactly 15 minutes later on a similar play as Canicatti again dropped a pass into the danger area for her teammate to fire home in front.
For the Seawolves (1-6-0), junior Taryn Schoenbeck (Newark, Del.) and sophomore Caitlin Pfeiffer (Holland, N.Y.) each had three shot attempts as the visitors fired nine total shots in the match. Fordham keeper Ally White stopped all three attempts on target to earn the shutout.
Stony Brook will look to get back on track on Friday when it welcomes Army to LaValle Stadium at 7 p.m.
