Women's soccer stumbles vs. Sacred Heart

Sept. 4, 2011

Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Taryn Schoenbeck scored a game-tying goal in the 82nd minute for the Stony Brook women's soccer team, but Sacred Heart answered with a goal four minutes later to come away with a 2-1 win at LaValle Stadium Sunday.

Schoenbeck's goal came at 81:16 after a scrum for the ball had been created from sophomore Julianne Palm's free kick into the scoring box. Schoenbeck retrieved the loose ball about 15 yards out and then struck a shot that deflected off Sacred Heart goalkeeper Sydney Judkins and into the net. It was goal No. 1 on the season for the junior midfielder.

The goal matched Sacred Heart's first tally which came in the 51st minute on a shot from Kristin Verrette, assisted by Jillian Picinich.

Not five minutes after Schoenbeck scored the equalizer, the Pioneers marched down the field and netted the game-winning goal. After a throw-in towards the middle of the field, another scramble for a loose ball created an opportunity for Lauren Boccio, who retrieved the ball, dribbled in to about six yards out and then blasted the ball to the bottom left corner of the net for the goal.

The goal offset a strong keeper performance from sophomore Chelsea Morales, who made six saves in the match.

Stony Brook will look to bounce back next Friday, Sept. 9 when the Seawolves host Long Island at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium at 7 p.m.
