The Stony Brook University women's volleyball team will travel to compete in the Central Connecticut State Invitational this weekend. SBU opens against Bucknell on Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on Saint Peter's (11 a.m.) and the host Blue Devils (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday.

Senior Alicia Nelson (Apple Valley Minn.) tallied a game-high 19 kills to lead the Seawolves to a 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 8-25, 25-16) victory over the Iona Gaels on the second day of the Stony Brook Holiday Inn Express tournament. The Seawolves nearly rallied from a two-set deficit against Rhode Island in the day's second game before falling 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 17-25, 15-6).
Nelson added 17 kills against URI and was named to the All-Tournament team as she totaled 47 kills in the three matches.

Slaughter (Clinton, Md.) earned America East Player of the Week honors on Monday ... Slaughter averaged 3.92 points per set over the weekend as she was named to the Holiday Inn Express All-Tournament team ... she had 16 kills on a .375 attack percentage in the 3-1 win over Iona on Saturday and then closed out the Holiday Inn Express Tournament with career-highs in kills (18) and block assists (six) against Rhode Island ... she ranks third in the America East with a .333 attack percentage ... freshman Laura Hathaway (Warsaw, N.Y.) was named Co-Defensive Player of the Holiday Inn Express Tournament as she totaled 48 kills ... Nelson tallied 19 kills in the four-set win over Iona on Saturday ... Nelson leads the America East with 4.08 kills per set.
Scouting the Opponents:
Central Connecticut (2-4) dropped two of its three matches at the George Washington Invitational last weekend. The Blue Devils knocked off North Carolina Central before falling to GW and UNC Wilmington.
Junior outside hitter Emily Cochran leads the team with 59 kills but is hitting .079. Freshman Brittany Schumacher has paced the defense as she is first on the squad with 3.83 digs per set.
Bucknell opened its 2011 season last weekend at the Bucknell tournament, defeating Fordham before falling to Manhattan and Dartmouth. Sophomore Jessica Serrato led the Bison with 32 kills in the three matches.
The Seawolves will travel to participate in the Bucknell Invitational next weekend.
Saint Peter's has lost seven straight to open the season as it was swept at both the La Salle and Lafayette Invitational. The Peacocks then fell to St. Francis (N.Y.) in five sets in its home opener on Tuesday.
Paige Petersen has a team-high 61 kills for the Peacocks, who are hitting .136 for the season.
